GSC - Intro to Cybersecurity

An 18-week Robotnix delivery of Garden State Cyber - Introduction to Cybersecurity I. The course follows the Middle Township curriculum through ethics, the CIA Triad, authentication, malware, Linux command line, social engineering, phishing and OSINT, system hardening, threat modeling and IoT, binary and encoding, classical cryptography, steganography, privacy versus security, computer components, networking fundamentals, protocols, packets, and Wireshark analysis. Labs remain bounded to teacher-provided, authorized, or synthetic environments.

Course overview

This 18-week Garden State Cyber delivery introduces ethics, CIA, authentication, malware awareness, Linux, social engineering, hardening, threat modeling, cryptography, privacy, components, networks, protocols, and packet analysis through authorized and defensible practice.

Audience and pace

Grades 9–12. The scheduled course runs for 18 weeks at 240 instructional minutes per week.

What you will learn

  • Explain threats, controls, data protection, network behavior, and defensive evidence.
  • Use authorized tools and supplied/isolated environments to inspect systems and communicate risk.
  • Connect authentication, human factors, configuration, cryptography, Linux, and packet evidence to practical recommendations.

Course structure

The sequence covers ethics and foundations; threats; human factors; data safety and best practices; cryptography and Linux; and devices and networks. Each block connects technical concepts to documented defensive decisions.

Learning evidence and assessment

Learners create agreements, threat analyses, hardening and backup evidence, Linux/cryptography artifacts, network/packet observations, and portfolio records. Assessment focuses on the evidence behind recommendations.

Expectations and boundaries

Labs are teacher-provided, authorized, synthetic, or isolated. Do not target live systems, collect credentials, send phishing, bypass protections, or use tools outside assigned scope.

Capstone

The Cybersecurity I Defensive Systems Portfolio assembles authorized evidence and explains practical security recommendations with limitations.

Access and support

Use supplied virtual, browser, and evidence resources. Instructor alternatives support learners who cannot use a particular local or virtual environment.
