Week 2: Navigation, Presentation, and Data Records

Week 1 gave you a first portfolio page and the first pieces of media evidence. Week 2 asks a harder question:

Can another person use your work without you standing next to them explaining it?

That question connects three different tools. A website needs navigation. A presentation needs a clear path through ideas. A spreadsheet needs organized records before formulas and charts can mean anything.

This week you will improve your portfolio, draft a short presentation, and begin a spreadsheet that can produce a simple chart. The goal is not to make three disconnected files. The goal is to make artifacts that explain their own purpose and preserve evidence.

What you will learn

By the end of the week, you should be able to:

• test portfolio navigation from a visitor's point of view;
• identify and repair confusing link labels, missing return paths, and weak page names;
• organize files and media so the project can be maintained;
• check an image or media item for useful alt text and source information;
• build a short slide deck with audience, purpose, and visual hierarchy;
• create spreadsheet records using consistent column names and data types;
• write basic formulas for totals, counts, or comparisons;
• make a chart from a selected data range;
• explain what a chart proves and what it does not prove; and
• update the portfolio with Week 2 evidence.

Labs this week

Week 2 has five connected lab movements:

1. audit portfolio navigation;
2. repair accessibility and file organization;
3. draft a short presentation;
4. build spreadsheet records and formulas; and
5. create a chart claim and add the evidence to the portfolio.

What you will submit

Keep the following evidence:

• a navigation audit with at least three visitor tasks;
• one repaired navigation or labeling issue;
• one accessibility/media evidence record;
• a short presentation draft with a clear title, purpose, and visual hierarchy;
• a spreadsheet with organized records and at least two formulas;
• one chart with a written claim and limitation; and
• the Week 2 reflection.

Tool options

Use school-managed tools when they are available. PowerPoint and Excel are valid choices. If those tools are unavailable, use the approved slide and spreadsheet fallback supplied by your teacher.

Do not publish private information. If a public website or account is not approved, keep the portfolio in the assigned local or classroom-only environment.
