Checkpoint 2: Safe Lab Competency

Use the Week 5 VM/simulation lab as evidence that you can work inside a controlled cybersecurity boundary.

Submit

Your lab record must include:

  • preflight user, host, working directory, and expected state;
  • original baseline configuration;
  • the one authorized configuration change;
  • before/after observations;
  • a security-versus-availability/usability trade-off;
  • recovery to the original baseline;
  • verification that recovery actually succeeded;
  • the isolation review;
  • one limitation explaining what this classroom simulation does not prove about a production system.

Defense question

Answer in 3-5 sentences:

What evidence proves that your experiment changed only the approved condition and ended in a trusted state?

Scoring

This is a teacher-reviewed mastery checkpoint.

The common GSC I rubric scores five areas from 0-4:

  • technical accuracy
  • evidence quality and reproducibility
  • reasoning and trade-offs
  • safety and authorization
  • communication

Maximum: 20 points.

The Robotnix mastery target is 15/20 or higher with no criterion below 2. If the evidence is incomplete or a claim reaches beyond what the evidence supports, revise and resubmit.
