Checkpoint 6: Cybersecurity I Defensive Systems Portfolio
This is the final GSC I mastery checkpoint.
You will combine two different evidence sources:
- the Week 17 synthetic local packet capture, which proves specific ARP/TCP/HTTP observations; and
- the Week 18 topology/fault simulator and supplied architecture facts, which support routed-path and failure reasoning.
Do not treat a topology prediction as packet evidence, and do not claim that the local capture proves a remote routed path.
Submit
Your final portfolio must include:
- system/path diagram;
- clear labels showing which claims come from the packet capture and which come from the topology model;
- ARP evidence explanation with packet numbers;
- TCP three-way-handshake timeline with packet numbers;
- one layered packet annotation;
- six-control defensive security map with asset, CIA property, failure reduced, and limitation;
- one teacher-provided fault/failure analysis;
- five earlier course artifacts showing growth across the semester;
- five-minute architecture-defense outline.
At least one earlier artifact must come from each area:
- ethics/authentication/human factor;
- systems/hardening/IoT;
- binary/cryptography/steganography;
- command line;
- networking/packet analysis.
Defense question
Your oral/written defense must be able to answer:
- What does the local capture actually prove?
- What does the topology model add that the capture does not?
- Why are MAC and IP addresses both needed in the model?
- What does the TCP handshake establish?
- Which defensive control matters most in your design and why?
- What additional evidence would you need before calling an observed event malicious?
Scoring
This is a teacher-reviewed mastery checkpoint.
The common GSC I rubric scores five areas from 0-4:
- technical accuracy
- evidence quality and reproducibility
- reasoning and trade-offs
- safety and authorization
- communication
Maximum: 20 points.
The Robotnix mastery target is 15/20 or higher with no criterion below 2. If the evidence is incomplete or a claim reaches beyond what the evidence supports, revise and resubmit.
