Week 14: Privacy vs Security
This week moves from cryptographic mechanisms to the policy questions those mechanisms create.
Garden State Cyber I asks students to distinguish privacy from security, study a teacher-provided encrypted-device case, and debate whether government should have lawful access to encrypted messages or devices.

Lesson 1: Privacy and Security Are Not Opposites
Separate privacy from confidentiality, identify stakeholders, map data practices, and redesign a fictional system to preserve its benefit while reducing unnecessary privacy cost.
Lesson 2: Case Study: Lawful Access to an Encrypted Device
Use only the assigned case packet to separate facts, technical architecture, policy claims, strongest arguments, risk transfer, and unresolved questions.
Lesson 3: Debate Lab: Should Government Have Lawful Access to Encrypted Devices?
Prepare both sides, use claim-evidence-reasoning cards, conduct technical and policy cross-examination, and write an individual post-debate position memo.
