Prerequisite Checkpoint: Pass the Workspace Gate

Close this route with a Workspace Readiness Record that proves:

  • the expected source/package location;
  • package metadata was inspected;
  • a build result exists;
  • install output exists where expected;
  • the current shell has the intended overlay state;
  • package discovery succeeds in the sourced environment.

Then classify the workspace:

READY
PARTIALLY READY
NOT READY

If the workspace is not ready, name the first failed boundary: source, metadata, build, install, or shell visibility.

Do not proceed to launch diagnosis by guessing around a broken workspace baseline.

If these mechanics are not already familiar, return to ros2-for-students. This route verifies readiness rather than teaching workspace fundamentals again.
