Unit 8: Final Technical Defense and Engineering Handoff

The last week does not add another hidden feature. It tests whether the evidence you already built can survive challenge, support a bounded readiness decision, and be handed to another engineer without relying on your memory.

Chapter question

Can you defend each readiness claim from exact evidence, keep alternative explanations alive until they are ruled out, and hand off the demonstrated system without overstating integration or physical readiness?

What you will understand

You will learn evidence challenge, alternative-hypothesis reasoning, frozen acceptance criteria, final readiness classification, technical-defense structure, reproducible handoff, and next-evidence planning.

What you will do

You will challenge six major claims, build an alternative-hypothesis table for one incident, freeze the final readiness matrix, rehearse a five-minute technical defense, answer integration and deployment challenges, and write an engineering handoff that another student can continue from.

What you will produce

Your final deliverables are the Final Readiness Decision, Technical Defense Packet, and Engineering Handoff. These point back to the Week 17 Robot System Readiness Dossier rather than replacing it with slides.

How the week connects

Week 17 assembled and tested the evidence. Week 18 subjects that evidence to skeptical review and closes the course with a reproducible handoff. The result is a defensible software/runtime readiness record, not an invented claim that a Java-to-ROS bridge or physical robot was completed when it was not.

Approximate time

About 210 minutes for the five lessons, lab, and wrap-up. The technical defense may be delivered live, recorded, or rehearsed with a peer/reviewer while the underlying dossier remains the authoritative evidence source.

Final evidence required

A frozen readiness table, six challenge-sheet entries, one alternative-hypothesis analysis, a five-minute defense packet, explicit Java-to-ROS and physical-readiness statuses, a reproducible engineering handoff, and a next-evidence roadmap that another student can execute without undocumented context.
