Investigation: Inside the Esports Ecosystem

An esports match may show ten players, but coaches, analysts, administrators, broadcasters, designers, technical support, schools, leagues, and audiences can all be necessary. That connected network is the esports ecosystem.

Start with a match, then add what depends on it and what it depends on.

COACH -> PLAYERS -> MATCH -> TOURNAMENT ADMIN -> RESULTS
                         -> BROADCAST -> AUDIENCE

Add technology: computers, peripherals, game software, accounts, network, and streaming tools. If the network fails, a remote match and broadcast may stop. If the administrator is absent, schedules, disputes, and results can become unclear. This failure test reveals dependencies.

NASEF's career framework is a useful way to organize the roles: strategists improve decisions; content creators tell the event story; entrepreneurs grow or sustain an organization; and organizers make programs function. Players are one visible role, not the whole field.

Build your map

In Google Slides, put Esports Event in the center. Include at least ten components, twelve meaningful arrows, three non-player roles, one competition format, one technology dependency, and one audience or media component. Every arrow must answer: “How are these parts connected?”

Finish with a written failure analysis: remove one component, explain what still works, what fails, and why.
