Did We Practice or Just Play?
Week 05 Reflection: Did We Practice or Just Play?
This week started with a simple problem.
People use the word "practice" constantly.
Three hours of ranked? Practice.
Watching a replay? Practice.
Doing the same drill forty times? Practice.
Team scrimmage? Practice.
Maybe.
The better question is:
What was supposed to change?
Look at your experiment
You created a Practice Improvement Experiment.
It has:
- a problem
- a baseline
- a target
- a method
- feedback
- a retest
- evidence
Now attack your own plan.
Where is it weakest?
Reflection prompt
Choose one part of your Practice Improvement Experiment that you believe has the greatest effect on whether the practice actually produces useful improvement.
It could be diagnosis, practice target, method, feedback, repetition, retest, or evidence.
Then answer:
Why does this part matter, what happens if it is missing, and how would you know whether your practice session produced real change instead of simply more play time?
Write 150 to 200 words.
Your response needs four things
1. Choose the part
Example:
Feedback.
2. Explain its job
Do not write, "Feedback is important."
Tell me what it does inside the improvement loop.
3. Remove it
Imagine the practice happens without that part.
What changes?
Example:
Players can repeat the same behavior without realizing the target is not improving.
4. Identify evidence
What would convince you that change happened?
Example:
Baseline:
4 late calls
Retest:
1 late call
That is evidence. It is not proof that the player is permanently fixed. It is evidence that something changed.
Do not confuse winning with improvement
Suppose your team practices communication, then wins the scrimmage.
Did communication improve?
Maybe.
Or maybe the opponent played badly, someone made a huge individual play, the game situation was easier, or luck helped.
The win is an outcome. You still need evidence tied to the practice target.
Flip it around:
baseline:
6 conflicting calls
retest:
1 conflicting call
Your team still loses the scrimmage.
Did practice fail?
No. The team lost, but the target improved. Those are different measurements.
Final sentence
End with:
Practice becomes useful when...
Do not quote the lesson. Give your version.
Alternative submission
With instructor approval, submit a 60 to 90 second recorded explanation using your Practice Improvement Experiment as evidence.
Same expectations.
Week 05 complete
Week 01:
Esports is bigger than the game.
Week 02:
Culture is built through behavior.
Week 03:
Trust grows through reliable roles.
Week 04:
Performance needs a sustainable system.
Week 05:
Improvement needs a feedback loop.
Next, we ask whether a team can use these ideas to build and test a routine that actually helps people work together.
