Week 07 · overview
Constructive Communication
Your teammate sees the opponent rotate.
They know what is happening.
They know what the team should do.
But they never say anything.
Does the team have that information?
No.
One person has it. The team does not.
That is this week.
Communication is moving information
This week treats communication as an information system:
Event
-> Observation
-> Message
-> Channel
-> Reception
-> Interpretation
-> Action
Many communication failures happen even when the original information is true.
Accurate can still fail
An accurate call can still fail because it is:
- late
- unclear
- irrelevant to current decision
- sent through the wrong channel
- unconfirmed
Communication quality is not only truth.
It is also clarity, timing, relevance, channel, and confirmation.
Signal and noise
Signal helps the team decide now.
Noise consumes attention without helping current decisions.
A team can have lots of talking and still have poor communication.
Constructive does not mean polite but useless
Constructive communication helps the team understand, decide, adjust, recover, and improve.
Direct messages can be constructive when they are clear and useful.
Lesson 1: Communication Changes Team Outcomes
You will trace information through observation, message creation, channel transfer, interpretation, and action.
You will debug delayed calls, unclear calls, missing acknowledgment, and overloaded comms.
Lesson 2: Clear and Constructive Messages
You will build usable message structure under pressure:
What
Where
When or Action
You will also apply closed-loop communication:
Call -> Acknowledge -> Act
Lesson 3: Communication Scenario Lab
You will test your communication system under constraints: hidden information, word limits, delayed messages, conflicting calls, no-voice rounds, and emotional noise.
Week 07 artifact
Your final artifact is an Esports Communication Protocol.
It defines:
- critical calls
- message structure
- speaking priority
- acknowledgment rules
- conflict-call decision ownership
- reset process
- backup channel
Learning targets
By the end of Week 07, you should be able to explain:
- why communication is an information-transfer problem
- why accurate information can arrive too late to matter
- how overlapping messages create communication noise
- how clear vocabulary reduces interpretation time
- why acknowledgment matters for critical information
- how constructive communication differs from personal judgment
- how short or missing responses can be misinterpreted
- how to build a communication protocol for high-pressure situations
One idea to keep:
Good communication is the right information reaching the right people at the right time in a form they can use.
