Week 07 · lesson
Communication Scenario Lab
Today you lose full information, lose bandwidth, and face conflicting calls.
That is the point.
Communication systems must survive constraints, not only ideal conditions.
Hidden-information model
Player A knows location.
Player B knows time.
Player C knows objective status.
Decision quality depends on whether those pieces become a shared picture.
Lab setup
Use:
- information cards
- shared map
- roles
- timer
- restricted communication rules
Roles:
- Scout
- Timer
- Objective
- Decision Lead
- Optional Observer
Rule: only communicate what your role actually knows.
Round sequence
Round 1: open communication, 60 seconds, final decision required.
Round 2: ten-word limit per participant.
Round 3: inconsistent vocabulary labels.
Round 4: one role has a 10-second speaking delay.
Round 5: conflicting calls require ownership rule.
Round 6: no voice channel, text or pings only.
Round 7: emotional-noise injection before next decision.
Observer protocol
Record evidence, not judgments.
Use measurable notes:
- repeated messages
- overlapping calls
- clarification questions
- conflicting calls
- time to decision
- missed critical information
Reset rule
Add a reset message, for example:
Reset. Review later.
Meaning:
- stop replaying last mistake
- return to current information
- defer detailed review
Build the artifact
Your Esports Communication Protocol must include:
- Priority stack
- Standard message structure
- Shared vocabulary (at least five terms)
- Acknowledgment rules
- Decision ownership for conflicting calls
- Reset rule
- Backup channel when voice fails
Protocol test
Run one final scenario with protocol v1.
Record:
Time to decision
Repeated messages
Clarification questions
Conflicting calls
Missed critical information
Revise one rule and run again.
Defense
Defend one protocol rule in 60 seconds:
- What problem does it solve?
- Which lab failure produced it?
- What breaks without it?
Exit ticket
Complete:
- The biggest communication failure we discovered was...
- Our protocol changes... because...
