Week 04 · overview

Week 4: Power, Cooling, Expansion, and Displays

210 instructional minutes | five 42-minute lessons

This week connects electrical power, thermal management, PCIe expansion, GPUs, monitor/projector technologies, and display-path troubleshooting.

Lesson sequence

  1. Power Has a Path
  2. Cooling Is Part of Reliability
  3. Expansion Cards and Display Systems
  4. Power and Expansion Planning Lab
  5. Hardware Fault Isolation Challenge

Evidence you will produce

  • PSU input/output and connector map;
  • thermal/airflow diagnosis;
  • expansion and display technology comparison;
  • power/expansion planning record;
  • hardware fault-isolation ticket.

A+ alignment

Primary coverage: Core 1 objectives 3.1, 3.6, 5.1, and 5.3, with reinforcement of 3.5.

Safety boundary

Never open a PSU. Remove power before internal service, allow hot components to cool, and stop work for burning smell, swollen components, or other electrical hazards.
