Lab: System Trace Studio

Mission

Create an annotated diagram for the research-and-share task from Lesson 3. You may use paper, a slide, or a drawing tool. Do not use a real account, network scan, or administrator setting.

Build

1. Choose a start action: search, write notes, save, or share.
2. Draw the person, input, software, processor/memory, storage, network/service, and output.
3. Add directional arrows and label what travels on each important arrow.
4. Mark one dependency with Needs: and one failure point with If this fails:.
5. Add a two-sentence explanation: what still works after the failure, and what does not.

Test with a partner

Trade diagrams. Your partner asks: “Where does the file survive a restart?” and “What must work for sharing to succeed?” Revise any arrow or label that does not answer those questions.

Submit

Your final diagram, dependency/failure explanation, and one tradeoff statement. Success means a reader can trace the task without you narrating it.
